Old Georgians HC are delighted to announce the signing of Chris Griffiths ahead of the 2020/21 season. Chris joins us from East Grinstead HC where he spent 6 years and contributed 8 goals towards their campaign last season.
Prior to joining East Grinstead in 2014, Chris spent his time playing hockey in Tasmania where he was part of the team to reach the semi-finals of the Australian playoffs and saw him win Player of the Season. He then transitioned back to the UK and joined Loughborough students HC. His 6 years with the students saw him compete in the men’s premier league and win the BUCS university cup.
His impressive form at club level did not go unnoticed and he earned himself his first international cap in 2014 against France, where England were victorious beating the French comfortably 10-0. Having suffered with injuries that ruled him out of appearing in the 2016 Olympics, Chris hit back in style representing GB and England on multiple occasions, racking up 103 international caps for his country. During the 2019 FIH Pro League, he scored four goals in four games, including an unstoppable finish in an away victory over the Netherlands putting the side through to the FIH Pro League Finals. Career honours include a Bronze medal at World League 2017, Bronze at European Championships 2017, and Bronze at the Commonwealth Games 2018. Chris will be hoping to hit these heights once again in the lead up to the Olympics to give GB the best chance of securing a first medal since 1988.

Away from the pitch he is also a talented cricketer and a passionate Aston Villa fan. Commenting on his signing Chris said, “It’s an exciting time to be joining Old Georgians HC. The club and the team are always working hard to better themselves and I look forward to being part of that”. Chris is an exceptionally skilful and exciting player to watch, we look forward to seeing him down at the Lair.
Welcome Chris!
