Dear
OGHC Member
Re: Refurbishment of the Old
Georgians’ Club House
I
am pleased to be writing to you to provide you with an update in respect of
plans to refurbish the Old Georgians’ Club House.
The Old Georgians’ Hockey Club (OGHC) has
been in discussions with the Old Georgians’ Association (OGA) to agree a
strategy for improving this important facility, which has been the clubhouse
and home of the OGHC since the hockey club began.
I
am pleased to report that an agreement is now in place and we can all look
forward to reaping the benefits of refurbishment works from the start of the
forthcoming season.
In
summary the profits generated by the careful management of the Club House bar
are to be used to fund refurbishment works, and the OGA have very kindly put up
£10,000 in order to kick start this initiative over the summer.
By appropriate promotion of the venue for
functions the aim is to the increase revenue to a similar level to a few years
ago when John Champion ran the bar for functions and generated annual profits
of roughly £10,000.
As
a main user of the Club House the involvement of the OGHC in ensuring the
success of this initiative is instrumental, and in recognition of this it has
also been agreed that the hockey club will receive a direct financial benefit
in the form of an annual donation of £1,000 to our junior Dragons section.
The OGA have also kindly agreed to guarantee
this donation for the coming season.
Refurbishment
works will commence in August with a view to having the first stage of works
complete for PJJ Day, which is the traditional start of our season, and this
year takes place on 13th September.
Additional
resources are always welcome and as such if you wish to assist with these works
, either by donating your time to physically help on
site, or to work behind the bar for functions, or if you would like to make a
donation to the refurbishment fund, please contact either myself or Lou Needle
(Chairman of the newly formed Club House Committee - lou.needle@virgin.net).
This
is a very important development for the Club and I hope we all take the
opportunity to make greater use of the clubhouse, and to all do our bit to
increase the revenues over the bar!!
It
will also be great to have a base from which to really build the social side of
the Club.
I
look forward to seeing you all at PJJ Day to kick start the season in style.
Yours
Sincerely,
Ben
Hunt
Chairman
OGHC.
